Ridgid makes a combination spindle/belt that is inexpensive. I haven't used one but reviews are positive. It looks like a good option for a small shop for occasional use.
Remove the rubber cap and keep the cap for future use. Now if the pad comes with a belt in the washer it's fine. But there is no washer, then use the stock washer. Next time, use a hair dryer or a heat gun set on low to warm the abrasive disc and platen and soften the adhesive. Work on one section at a time, and the disc should peel cleanly off. (Tip: If the old disc isn't worn out, use the backing paper from the new disc to preserve the old one for reuse.)
